The archives of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur of the California Province located in Belmont, Calif., includes journals, memoirs, newsletters, correspondence, photos, scrapbooks and artifacts from over 150 years of their West Coast history.

Holdings include:

  • Official records of the Province
  • Records about individual schools and convents in California, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii
  • Mission accounts
  • Individual Sisters' records
  • Manuscripts and documentation of non-educational ministries
  • Records about properties.

Non-textual holdings include:
  • Approximately 4,000 photographs dated 1860 to the present-copyright not expressly owned by the California Province for most before 1960,
  • 40+ oral history taped interviews (not transcribed)
  • A number of video interviews
  • A number of architectural drawings, maps and charts
  • A sizable collection of artifacts related to the Sisters and their institutions.

Publication Rights:

For many of our archival photographs, copyright has not been assigned to the Sisters of Notre Dame, California Province Archives. To use photographs from our collection, researchers must obtain permission from the copyright holder.

Use of all materials is restricted to research and educational purposes. Copyright restrictions also apply to digital reproductions of original materials.
