Notre Dame Sisters opened St. Mary's School back in 1924. They were tragically forced to leave just 11 years later when two of the Sisters were killed in an auto accident, and a third Sister seriously injured. The Sisters of Notre Dame were not able to replace them, so the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart continued their ministry. Today, George McCann Memorial Catholic continues the tradition of Catholic education in Visalia.
