The Art Gallery

Over the decades, Sisters of Notre Dame in the California Province have celebrated the creative Spirit of God with many different artistic expressions.

We hope you enjoy this small sampling.

This statue was chiseled out of wood by Sr. Marie Therese, circa 1955. Handmade quilt by Sr. Nancy O'Shea, circa 1987.

Sr. Anne Locke weaves baskets frequently using driftwood and shells in the design, circa 2000.

Mosaic of Saint Thomas by Sr. Monica Julie, circa 1965. The ancient art of calligraphy was revived in the 1970s. This piece was hand-lettered by Sr. Margaret Hoffman.

Sr. Natalia Carrasco has worked in weaving for years and produces beautifully designed fabrics using a loom, circa 2003. Sr. Margaret Hoffman collaborated with Gabriel Loire, the famous staned glass artist from Chartres, France, in the design of these chapel windows at Notre Dame de Namur University,
circa 1958.

Entitled "Stone Mandala," Sr. Terry Davis creates unique prints with her computer, circa 2000s. Handmade quilt by Sr. Celeste Pagliarulo, circa 1987. Some of Sister's quilts have been sold to raise money for Sisters in Africa and Latin America.

Sr. Maureen Hilliard created this book and box following the tradition of book-making that Sr. Monica Julie taught so well, circa 2000.
