Honors for Sr. Beth Plesche
By Sr. Margaret Hoffman, SND
The School community of Most Holy Trinity parish in San Jose honored Sr. Beth Plesche at the Student Mass on June 1st. It was a surprise for a much-loved kindergarten teacher who will be retiring at the end of this school year—after 33 years teaching kindergarten and first grade at MHT school!
Rev. Robert Fambrini, SJ, the Pastor, explained that he had chosen the Mass of the Angels, which seemed most appropriate for the occasion. The students did all the singing and a parade of students from the kindergarten class offered many intentions for Sister—with the help of a stool to reach the podium. A number of Sisters of Notre Dame were present for the occasion, including two former principals: Sisters Barbara Matasci and Susan Olson.
Not surprisingly every student in the school had been invited to make a card for Sr. Beth, because she had taught almost all members of the present student body and set them on their educational journeys. At the offertory members of her present class brought up symbols of life in the kinder world: a pail of apples from the farm they visited, angel wings from the Christmas play, a snail hand puppet to honor their wonderful science projects, a bouquet of sunflowers, among other items. At the conclusion of the Mass, the school faculty presented Sister with gifts, including a framed picture of students in the school yard. .
At the conclusion of the Mass, the students processed to the patio to present Sr. Beth with their cards, and in return each received a cookie. Then on to lunch for all.
