News from South Sudan

Sr. Carolyn Buhs, who lives and ministers in South Sudan, wrote this on her birthday.

TBuhs-smalloday I praise and thank God for the gift of life! Praise God for the gift of serving here in Yambio Solidarity Teacher Training College! Monday we will begin the Pre-Service. Our Principal Sr. Margaret Scott is trying to find 25 more beds. She has accepted 75 men students, but only has room for 50 men in the dorm. One of the class rooms will be converted into a dorm and the science lab will become a regular classroom. Tents would not work as the rains seem to have begun. I’m also especially happy because six of our ten students from the First Year Class in Malakal will be here with us in Yambio as they study to complete their second year of Teacher Training. God is Good!

Now I’m sharing community here in Yambio with Comboni Sister Carmita who was among the Comboni sisters, brothers and priests who spent three weeks in the bush when their mission in Leer was attacked and the bullets of the Dar Fur mercenaries were flying. Carmita is from Ecuador. She is a wonderful teacher, diligently following up each student during their teaching practice.

Thank you for keeping us in your prayers. We continue to pray for a change of heart to bring peace and healing to this new nation.

Wishing you blessings for this Lenten Season.
