Writing from South Sudan

Sr. Carolyn Buhs

Sr. Carolyn Buhs returned to South Sudan in August 2014 to continue her teaching ministry with Solidarity with South Sudan. Sister had worked with SSS for two years and was out of the country during the December 2013 uprising in Malakal where she lived. The continuing unrest and danger in that region prevented the staff from returning to their compound. Eventually, the compound was damaged and their belongings looted. Sister recently enjoyed a short furlough in the U.S., but is glad to be back in South Sudan.

Greetings from Wau in Western Bahr el Ghazal!!!

I’ve been here almost one and a half months and have begun entering library books into the Small Library Organizer Pro and have even been able to print spine labels for 100 books!!! Step by step.

The rains are quite good in this part of South Sudan. The Health Training Institute is well laid out with cement paths and murram roads so we don’t need to use gum boots. However, the road from Wau to Juba is muddy and the lorries with gas cylinders are stuck somewhere, so we have no cooking gas. In our kitchen we have a big wood stove that gives us a good lunch, thanks to our cook, Mary!

Thank you for keeping us in your prayers. Your prayerful support have helped me recover from pneumonia and then from malaria. God is Good!
