Sister Dorothy Stang Honored by U.N.

In recognition of her defense of the rights of peasant farmers in Brazil and of the Amazon rainforest, Sr. Dorothy Stang received posthumously the U.N. Award for Human Rights at a ceremony before the General Assembly in New York. Her brother Dave Stang and Sr. Joan Burke, our NGO representative at the United Nations, accepted the award. Benazir Bhutto was also given the award posthumously along with four other men and women and the organization Human Rights Watch.  All have distinguished themselves in defense of human rights. We are delighted to have Sr. Dorothy’s life’s work recognized and valued by the United Nations.
